An Israeli scientist won this year’s Nobel
Prize in Chemistry for discovering quasicrystals, a material in which atoms
were packed together in a well-defined pattern that never repeats.
Recent Nobel prizes have generally split credit for scientific advances among
two or three people, but this year’s chemistry prize and the accompanying 10
million Swedish kronor ($1.4 million) went to a single scientist: Dan Shechtman,
70, a professor of materials science at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology
in Haifa, Israel.
Dr. Shechtman is also a professor at Iowa State University and a researcher at
the United States Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory.
The citation from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences states simply, “for
the discovery of quasicrystals.”
Regular but nonrepeating patterns, defined by precise rules, have been known
in mathematics since antiquity, and medieval Islamic artists made decorative,
nonrepeating tile mosaics, but the phenomenon was thought impossible in the
packing of atoms.
Yet Dr. Shechtman discovered the same type of structure in a mixture of
aluminum and manganese. During a sabbatical in Maryland at the National Bureau
of Standards, now known as the National Institute of Standards and
Technology, he took a molten glob of the metals and chilled it rapidly. The
expectation was that the atoms would have been a random jumble, like glass. Yet
when he examined his metal with an electron microscope, Dr. Shechtman found that
the atoms were not random.
His notebook recorded the exact date: April 8, 1982.
Scientists believed that crystals in materials all contained repeating
patterns. For example, a square lattice has fourfold symmetry. Rotate it by 90
degrees, and it looks identical. A repeating lattice with fivefold symmetry,
however, is impossible. On that morning in 1982, the electrons Dr. Shechtman
bounced off his aluminum-manganese alloy formed a pattern that indicated tenfold
symmetry. He could not quite believe it. He wrote in his notebook, “10 Fold???”
While a periodic lattice could not produce that pattern, a quasicrystal
could.
It took years for Dr. Shechtman to convince others.
During the announcement, the Nobel committee noted that one colleague
initially said, “Go away, Danny,” because he thought there was a simpler
explanation for what Dr. Shechtman had observed. Many scientists — notably Linus
Pauling, the Nobel-winning giant of chemistry — argued vehemently that Dr.
Shechtman’s data could be explained by “twinning,” where two ordinary periodic
crystals are fused together at an angle.
“That must have been intimidating,” said Nancy B. Jackson, president of the
American Chemical
Society. “When he first discovered these materials, nobody thought they
could exist. It was one of these great scientific stories that his fellow
scientists thought was impossible, but through time, people came to realize he
was right.”
Even the definition of crystal had to be changed. Previously, a crystal had
been defined as having “a regularly ordered, repeating three-dimensional
pattern,” according to the International Union of Crystallography. The new
definition, adopted in 1992, states that a crystal is simply a solid with a
“discrete diffraction diagram” — that is, something that produces patterns like
the ones Dr. Shechtman saw.
That leaves the door open for yet more different kinds of crystals in the
future. Quasicrystals have since been found in many other materials, including a
naturally occurring mineral from a Russian river. Materials scientists have been
exploring quasicrystals because of their distinct properties — they are hard,
brittle, slippery and, unlike most metals, poor conductors of electricity.
Quasicrystals have so far had a modest impact in the everyday world. For
example, one kind of highly resilient steel, consisting of hard steel
quasicrystals embedded within softer steel, is now used in razor blades and thin
needles for eye surgery.
“The applications haven’t panned out,” said Patricia A. Thiel, a colleague of
Dr. Shechtman at Iowa State and Ames Laboratory who also studies quasicrystals.
“But they revolutionized our understanding of how atoms arrange themselves in
solids. It was a scientific revolution.”
Israeli leaders expressed delight and pride at the 10th Nobel Prize won by a
citizen of Israel, which has a population of less than eight million. Two years
ago, Ada
E. Yonath of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, shared
the award for chemistry as well.
Shimon Peres, Israel’s president, spoke by telephone to Dr. Shechtman at a
news conference in Haifa and said, “Professor Shechtman, you today brought an
enormous gift to the State of Israel, truly.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
also called and told him, “Every Israeli is happy today, and every Jew in the
world is proud.”
Dr. Shechtman was born and educated in Israel. At the news conference, he
said, “The celebration is not only for the Technion and the State of Israel but
also for science worldwide. There are today thousands of scientists around the
world working in this field that I developed, and I am certain they all see this
prize as their accomplishment and they really deserve it. Without these
thousands, this science would not be where it is today.”
Dr. Shechtman added, “The main lesson that I have learned over time is that a
good scientist is a humble and listening scientist and not one that is sure 100
percent in what he reads in the textbooks.”

Forcing a child to sit in the cold weather and be among the dirt , crime, and low life of society is child abuse. It's not a lesson as these children of former Hippies think. I am sure the child didn't write "My Momma aint on welfare But your Bank is" People if you bank at that bank and you have an account at that bank or if you do transactions at that bank then you take welfare MONEY! If you cash a check YOU ARE USING THE FEDERAL RESERVE. If your bank account is insured You are INSURED by the FEDERAL RESERVE. So what does this lead us to and what lesson? Demand gold nuggets and silver Nuggets Wait you can't spend that. No store has the weight system anymore. Then stuff the money in your mattress and pray you wont have a fire or be robbed.
While you stand in line at the the unempolyment you maybe standing in line with OH NO someone who was laid off from Payne Weber or JPMorgan or Golden Sacks for down sizing.
Why don't you demonstrators worry about how filthy and dirty it is to sit on the sidewalk where your co- demonstrators just urinated and defecated . Or were dogs pooped and Peeped who had hook worms.
Wait I see people selling Tshirts in the crowd, That is capitalism! Did they share their wealth with you?

For Children’s Sake, Taking to the Streets

MALKA LUBELSKI marched for economic justice last Sunday dressed as Minnie Mouse.
In a pink costume with white polka dots and black mouse ears, she circled
Zuccotti Park, the epicenter of the Occupy
Wall Street protests, carrying a homemade sign that read, “From the very
young, the very old, we are the 99%.”
It would have been one more bit of street theater, except that Malka is 4, an
age when girls are generally thought to be more interested in Disney characters
than protest marches.
While her father, Abraham Lubelski, publisher of NY Arts magazine, talked
about his decision to take Malka and her 1 1/2-year-old sister, Josepha, to the
scene so they could “see real human needs,” Malka concerned herself with the
more mundane needs of her baby sister, who had been sitting in her stroller
munching contentedly on a vanilla ice
cream cone till the ice cream tumbled onto her sweater.
“Dad,” Malka interrupted, pointing to her younger sibling.
And so it goes in the second month of Occupy Wall Street, where children are
becoming an increasing presence as parents try to seize a “teachable moment” to
enlighten them on matters ranging from income
inequality to the right to protest.
The park’s makeshift collective library has a children’s section, complete
with a copy of “Harry
Potter,” Beverly Cleary titles and Meg Cabot’s “Holiday Princess.” A group
called Parents for Occupy Wall Street, headed by Kirby Desmarais, a Brooklyn
mother and record label owner, even organized a sleepover at the park for more
than 80 parents and children on a recent weekend night. (The families had to be
moved at dawn to make way for new police lines and barricades.) Spin-off parent
groups have sprung up in other cities like Denver and Seattle.
But most mothers and fathers bring their children on their own. Some recall
marching in antiwar protests in the 1960s and ’70s, and say they would like to
show their children what it means to be part of a large movement advocating for
social change. Those with babies and toddlers admit that the children are
unlikely to remember anything of their time at Zuccotti Park, but that they
believe the children will one day appreciate that they were present.
“When he’s older, I want him to know we cared enough to bring him down,” said
David McClelland, a resident of Clinton Hill in Brooklyn who came with his son,
Franklin, 2.
For Stephen Belber, a screenwriter who is adapting Dana Spiotta’s novel of
1970s left-wing activism gone awry, “Eat the Document,” Occupy Wall Street
presents a unique opportunity to discuss his work with his two children,
Clementine, 7, and Tobi, 11.
Clementine had questions. “Are the people who are sleeping here poor?” she
asked, pointing to the tents and sleeping bags.
“They choose to be here,” her father replied. “They are upset because there
are a few rich people and so many more poor people.”
Occupy Wall Street is hardly the first protest movement to include children.
They were often present at civil rights marches, and more recently, boys and
girls (complete with placards) have become a familiar presence at Tea Party
events. There were children at Tahrir Square in Cairo, as well as at many other
events that marked the Arab Spring.
A number of New York’s independent progressive-minded schools, like St. Ann’s
in Brooklyn Heights, are encouraging their older students to visit Zuccotti
Park. The Calhoun School on the Upper West Side has taken it a step further,
with students from the upper school’s photography and journalism classes
assigned projects that require a visit to the Occupy Wall Street encampment.
“We see the city as a classroom, and we don’t shy away from introducing our
children to things that are controversial,” said Steve Nelson, the head of the
school. “We want them to learn to examine and think critically about what is
going on around them in the world.”
Child therapists are divided on the appropriateness of taking children to the
protest. Susan Bartell, a psychologist who writes for Babycenter.com, advises caution for
the parents of children younger than 14. “There are kids who can go to a shelter
at Thanksgiving and help serve a meal,” she said, “but there are kids who are
traumatized by it.”
Madeline Levine, a psychologist, author of “The Price of Privilege” and a
prominent critic of upper-middle-class child-rearing practices, disagreed.
“We’ve done a lousy job of teaching civics in the country,” she said.
“Everything is cast in terms of what it does for your résumé. There is something
vital in being part of a group or a community.
“There isn’t a family that isn’t impacted by what’s going on right now,” she
added.
That is true of Samantha Cassidy, a photo editor and knitwear designer from
Brooklyn, who came to Zuccotti Park with her son, Cooper, 7. “I recently got
laid off, that’s why I’m here,” she said.
Others said that they are simply so passionate about the cause, they’ve
brought their children too many times to count. “I liken it to forcing them to
go to church,” said Rivka Gewirtz Little, an organizer of the 99 Percent School,
another group for parents who support the Occupy Wall Street movement. “It’s
important for them to learn your beliefs.”
Ms. Little’s daughters, ages 6 and 12, have been to Zuccotti Park so often
that the protesters’ communication system is now a factor in their playtime at
home.
“We had a bunch of kids in the house the other day and no one was listening
to each other,” Ms. Little said, “and my older daughter yelled, ‘Mike check!’ ”

Following Earthquake, Israel Sends Aid to Turkey
Thursday, 27 October 2011 09:49
Following the devastating 7.2-magnitude quake that struck Turkey this past
Sunday, Israel offered humanitarian aid to the Turkish government and to aid
Turkey in any way it that it could.
Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, ordered the Israeli defense system to send a
special aid delegation to Turkey in response, after the offer was accepted by
the Turkish authorities. Barak stated that, "The humanitarian gesture to Turkey
was forthcoming regardless of the [diplomatic] crisis. We remember their
assistance during the Carmel forest fires… We will send everything necessary and
whatever they ask for."
Israeli Air Force aircraft brought prefabricated houses and other supplies to Eastern Turkey today (October 27). The assistance is focused on temporary buildings necessary for the rehabilitation of people rescued and evacuated at disaster sites in Turkey, as well as essential field hospital structures.
The Turkish request was transferred via the Israeli Consul stationed in Ankara.
Two days ago Defense Minister Barak already spoke to Maj. Gen. Amos Gilad, Director of Policy and Political-Military Affairs of the Israeli Defense Ministry, offering Turkish authorities any assistance needed in dealing with the earthquake that took place in eastern Turkey. In response, the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz instructed the IDF to prepare for the possibility of a search and rescue aid delegation sent to Turkey. The Home Front Command prepared the relevant forces.
Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu spoke with his Turkish counterpart expressing his condolences for the deaths and damage caused by the earthquake. Israeli President, Shimon Peres, spoke with Abdullah Gul, his Turkish counterpart, expressing his condolences and offering assistance from Israel.
Israel has sent humanitarian aid and earthquake relief to Turkey in the past. Following the powerful Izmit earthquake in 1999, Israeli rescue teams treated thousands of victims, pulled survivors from the rubble and saved many lives.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have stated that "hundreds, possibly thousands" of people are still trapped underneath the wreckage. As of Wednesday it was reported that 459 people have been killed in the earthquake that struck eastern Turkey on Sunday, with many more injured and still missing.

Gaffney: Rise of Sharia Law Will Bring War to the Middle East
Monday, 24 Oct 2011 06:56 PM
By Martin Gould and Kathleen Walter
War is on its way in the Middle East as Muslim countries are determined to force a showdown over the future of Israel, Ronald Reagan’s assistant defense secretary Frank Gaffney warned in an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview.
“I’m afraid there’s a war coming, a very serious, perhaps cataclysmic regional war,” he said. “It will be presumably over, at least in part, the future existence of the state of Israel. It may involve all of its neighbors, as they have in the past, attacking Israel to try, as they say, to drive the Jews into the sea.
“It may involve the use of nuclear weapons,” Gaffney predicted. “But whatever form it takes and whenever it occurs, it is unlikely to be contained to that region, and we must do everything we can to prevent freedom’s enemies from thinking they have an opportunity to engage in that kind of warfare.”
That means standing “absolutely, unmistakably” as one with Israel and doing everything to prevent Iran getting its hands on nuclear weapons.
Gaffney, who now heads up the nonprofit Center for Security Policy in Washington, D.C., was speaking on the day that the “moderate” Islamist party Ennahda claimed victory at the ballot box in Tunisia and the day after Libya’s new rulers declared that country will be run on Islamic principles and under Sharia law.
Gaffney does not believe Ennahda is really a moderating force. “I don’t believe there is such a thing as a moderate Islamist party,” he said. “The challenge with Islamists is that they seek to impose what they call Sharia on everybody, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
“They may, as a matter of tactical expediency, choose to do so in incremental ways, often nonviolently, at least initially.
“The problem is that, because ultimately they must — according to Sharia, according to what they believe is God’s will — make everyone feel subdued in order to achieve their God-mandated direction, they will not remain moderate. They will not be satisfied with anything less than the ultimate supremacy of Sharia and they certainly will not resist the use of violence when it becomes expedient to get their way.”
Gaffney, who writes a regular column for Newsmax, foresees a rising tide of Islamist governments growing throughout Middle East and North Africa and spreading even further.
“We’re witnessing not just the violent kind of jihad that these Islamists believe God compels them to engage in, but also, where they must for tactical reasons, a more stealthy kind, or civilizational jihad as the Muslim Brotherhood calls it. We’re witnessing that playing out, not only in places in the Middle East but also in Europe, in Australia, in Canada and here in the United States as well,” he said.
The spread of Sharia, which Gaffney said often is referred to as “Communism with a god,” is “the most urgent and grievous challenge we face as a free people.
“Those who follow this program of Sharia believe that God is directing them to engage in jihad or whatever form of warfare is necessary to accomplish their goals . . . .Through stealth, they have successfully penetrated important parts of the free world including our own government and civil society institutions.”
The Obama administration has to stop “embracing” the Muslim Brotherhood, Gaffney said.
“This is legitimating our enemies,” he said. “It is facilitating their influence operations and their penetration and it greatly increases the prospect that they will be successful at what the Muslim Brotherhood’s own documents indicate is their desire, which is to destroy western civilization from within.”
Gaffney noted that Ennahda had won what appears to be a clean election in Tunisia, but that doesn’t mean there ever will be another vote there.
“The problem is not simply democracy. People are pointing to Tunisia as a perfect example of democracy at work. Democracy is fine if all you want is one-man-one-vote one-time. That is precisely what the Muslim Brotherhood and its like-minded Islamist friends want.”
The Obama administration must apply pressure to ensure that democracy has a future there and elsewhere in the region, Gaffney said.
“The president and his administration are not even pursuing that,” he said. “What we are likely to wind up with, not just in Tunisia, not just in Libya, not just in Egypt, but probably in due course in Syria — as we have in Lebanon, as we have in Gaza and probably will have down the road in Yemen, Bahrain, maybe Saudi Arabia — is the takeover, the unmistakable takeover, perhaps through the ballot box, of people who will not seek or allow others freedom, who will impose Sharia and who will use whatever resources they amass as a result, not only to suppress their own people, but to endanger us.”

Coptic Christians Rally for Human Rights in DC, by Faith J. H. McDonnell
Thousands of Egyptian Americans representing oppressed and persecuted Coptic Christians streamed down Washington, DC’s Pennsylvania Avenue Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Their demonstration had begun in front of the White House. It ended with a rally at the U.S. Capitol.
Copts, who traveled by the busloads from such places as Chicago, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, came to Washington to protest the brutal treatment of Egypt’s Christians and demand that the Obama administration pressure Cairo to protect the rights of non-Muslims. They also wished to call attention to congressional legislation that supports Copts and other vulnerable people groups. The demonstration was a response to an Egyptian army-led massacre of Christians on Sunday, October 9, in Cairo.
On October 9, Egyptian Christians had staged a peaceful demonstration and a march through downtown Cairo to protest the burning of a church and several Christian-owned homes and businesses in Upper Egypt on September 30. The Christian protestors were attacked by an Islamist mob near an underpass cutting through downtown Cairo. They were pelted with rocks, bricks, Molotov cocktails, and otherwise molested. Then when the Christians reached their destination, Maspero Square, Egyptian military forces were already aligned against them to quell the demonstration.
Seeming to have forgotten Field Marshall Hussein Tantawi’s recent testimony that the army would “never . . . open fire at citizens,” the army did indeed open fire on the protestors, killing twenty-one. Later, when the army was leaving the bloodbath it had created, one soldier bragged that he had shot a Copt in the chest and killed him. The Muslim crowd cheered, shouting, “This is the real Egyptian army!”
Six other Christians at the demonstration were crushed under armored personnel carriers when those vehicles deliberately plowed into crowds of protestors. A Compass Direct News Service report called the attack “the worst act of violence against Egyptian Christians in modern history.” In addition to the twenty-six people that were killed, hundreds of others were wounded by the army’s attack. The army attack left Egypt’s Christians shocked and devastated.
At Wednesday’s demonstration in Washington, the American Copts pointed out that U.S. tax payer dollars fund the tanks that killed the Egyptian Christians. Many people, including members of Congress, ask why the U.S. continues to give hundreds of millions of dollars annually in financial aid to a country with such an abysmal human rights record. Over $70 billion has been given in aid since the Camp David accords, notes columnist Mike McManus. Some of the Coptic protestors in Washington held signs declaring, “Your Tax Dollars Kill Christians in Egypt.”
Other demonstrators carried a variety of other messages. Some of the protestors held large photographs depicting the horrific events at Maspero Square. Others carried Bible verses speaking of the persecution of the Church, or messages to the world such as “1400 years of Islamic oppression: We still stand defiant!”
Many of the people carried large wooden crosses or American flags. And a few carried black wooden coffins that they placed on the sidewalk in front of the White House. Together they raised their voices in such chants for justice as, “Why, why, must we die?” “Obama, Obama, where are you?” “Coptic blood is not cheap!” and “USA, wake up!”
As the protestors had declared, Copts and other Egyptian Christians, along with Egypt’s tiny Baha’i community and tinier Jewish community, have, to varying degrees, been victims of discrimination and persecution for 14 centuries. The Copts are descendants of ancient Egyptians converted to Christianity by Saint Mark, who founded the Church of Alexandria in 43 AD. But since the Arab conquest of Egypt in 640 AD, Egyptian Christians have lived as dhimmi, second-class citizens, under Islam.
Since the Tahrir Square demonstrations and President Mubarak?’s ouster in February 2011, threats to Egyptian Christians have come from both the usual Islamic-mob-inspired-by-local-Imam-after-Friday-prayers scenario and increasingly from the military and security forces. For instance, in February of 2011, two Coptic monasteries were attacked by the army because they had built walls to protect themselves from looters and criminals set loose from prisons by anti-Mubarak rebels.
Then in March, a mob of Islamists burned down the Church of the Two Martyrs in Sool, a village south of Cairo, after the local Imam issued a call for them to “kill all the Christians.” The pastor, who was almost killed in the fire, said that the clamor of the church being destroyed “sounded like hatred.” And villagers describing the scene to Compass Direct News Service said that the mob broke into the church chanting, “Allalu Akbar,” looting it, demolishing the walls with sledgehammers, and setting a fire.
“Looters removed anything valuable, including several containers holding the remains of venerated Copts – most of whom were killed in other waves of persecution – then stomped and kicked the containers like soccer balls,” witnesses told Compass Direct. More churches and Christian properties were attacked and burned and Christians killed and injured throughout 2011, leading up to the attack at the Maspero Building.
Egypt’s Christians had hopes that the Arab Spring would be for them, as well as for Muslims. Sadly, Egypt’s transformation has increased the influence and power of Islamic extremists in the country. This is unfortunate for all, but as is evident, it is lethal for the Christians. In the words of one Coptic Christian from New Jersey to The Washington Post, “We Christians have faced Islamic oppression for 1400 years, but now it is getting much more ugly.” And they wonder what new problems Egypt’s coming elections will bring. Some even suggest that the only solution is for all the Copts to leave their homeland, but American Copts hope that the United States will help their co-religionists and other vulnerable minorities in Egypt.
So far the response of the Obama administration to the attack on the Copts has been underwhelming. An October 10 White House statement by the Press Secretary featured the typical moral equivalency also found in statements about Israel, Sudan, and elsewhere, expressing the President’s deep concern about “the tragic loss of life among demonstrators and security forces.”
The President’s statement did stress that the rights of minorities and their religious freedom must be respected. But the takeaway from the remarks was the breathtaking admonition, “Now is a time for restraint on all sides.” White House Dossier reporter, Keith Koffler, says that Obama is “not only equating the deaths of peaceful protestors and their killers, but he is suggesting that Egypt’s increasingly persecuted Christian minority should show as much ‘restraint’ as their tormentors and refrain from vigorously objecting to the growing abuse.”
There is a stronger response to the Copts’ dilemma at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue. One recent action in Congress that may help Coptic Christians and other religious minorities is a bill introduced in the House by U.S. Rep. Frank R. Wolf (H.R. 440), the co-chair, along with U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) of the Religious Minorities in the Middle East Caucus in the House of Representatives.
The legislation, calling for the establishment of a special envoy to promote religious freedom of religious minorities in the Near East and South Central Asia, passed overwhelmingly in the House. Now the Senate version (S. 1245), introduced by Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), is languishing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. But the American Copts hope that hearings on the atrocities taking place, along with other publicity and the full enactment of the bill, will give voice and support to those who have not felt the warmth of spring in their experience of Egypt’s transformation.

What IS going on in Britain's mosque schools? Beatings, humiliation and lessons in hating Britain
Last updated at 1:36 AM on 25th October 2011
The punishment is almost medieval in its cruelty. Victims are forced to crouch down and hold their ears with their arms threaded under their legs. Beatings are often administered at the same time.
This brutal practice has its own name: the Hen, so called because those forced into the excruciatingly painful squatting position are said to resemble a chicken.
It is the kind of shockingly degrading treatment you might expect to feature in an expose of torture techniques, like say, the use of waterboarding (simulated drowning) on terrorism suspects. You’d be wrong, though.
Lessons in violence: Harrowing tales from some of
Britain's 3,500 madrassas were exposed in February's Dispatches
documentary
We have been told of one little girl who was forced to stay crouched and contorted in front of her class for an hour.
‘It’s a particularly unpleasant and painful punishment,’ said Dr Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, a founder of the Muslim Institute think-tank, and one of the few Muslim voices in the country to speak out about the abuse of youngsters at madrassas.
The harrowing stories now emerging from such establishments are all too familiar to detectives in Lancashire, where there are 15 madrassas in Accrington alone. They have received at least 37 separate allegations against local Islamic teachers or hafizes, ‘holy men’ who have memorised the Koran by heart.
Institutionalised hatred: The Mail has found that the
scenes at the West Yorkshire mosque in the Channel 4 programme are not
unusual
These are just some of the incidents which have recently been investigated. Yet, so far, not one of the perpetrators has been brought to justice or even reprimanded. Nor are they likely to be. Why? Well, at least some parents, it appears, were pressurised into withdrawing complaints by their own community where the clerical hierarchy are afforded great deference.
Indeed, more than 400 such allegations of physical abuse have been made to local authorities in the UK over the past three years, but there have been only two successful prosecutions.
The true scale of the scandal is unknown. Many families, it is suspected, are reluctant even to report the ill-treatment of their sons or daughters for fear of upsetting their fellow Muslims. Such fears are more than justified. In some cases, parents have been intimidated and threatened for going to the police.
Out of control: Non Muslims are referred to as 'infidels'
in lessons at the independent mosque schools
The plight of many students inside Britain’s madrassas — and the implications for wider society — was highlighted by the respected File On 4 programme on Radio 4 this week, and follows a Dispatches investigation on Channel 4 in February, which not only captured beatings on hidden cameras, but also pupils being taught hatred for the British way of life, which they were told is influenced by Satan.
Anyone with ‘less than a fistful of beard’ must be avoided ‘the same way you stay away from a serpent or a snake’, some children were instructed. Non-Muslims were referred to as the ‘infidel’.
There’s
the eight-year-old boy who was punched in the back several times or the boy,
also eight, who had his head pulled back by the hair, or the nine-year-old
forced into the 'Hen position' before being punched on the back and slapped in
the face
In other words, religious apartheid and social
segregation is being taught to a growing number of Muslim youngsters in our
towns and cities; an agenda, it seems, increasingly being reinforced by beatings
and brutality. So how much influence do madrassas hold over impressionable young Muslims? The statistics are compelling.
There are now believed to be around 3,500 madrassas in Britain although such is the demand for them that new ones are springing up all the time, not only in mosques but also in living rooms, garages, and even in abandoned pubs. Some have only a handful of pupils; others several hundred. Overall, up to 250,000 children, aged between four and 14, attend madrassas, all dutifully attired in Islamic dress; girls in headscarves, boys in skull caps.
In a typical daily scene, students hunch over wooden benches, rocking backwards and forwards as they learn the Koran by rote in Arabic, as a man with a long, dark beard dressed in traditional shalwar kameez — tunic and trousers — sits at the head of the class or paces up and down.
The comparison is misplaced. By definition, Sunday school takes place only once a week. The majority of madrassas hold classes every evening, six days a week. Lessons last for about two hours. They represent, in effect, a parallel, but largely unregulated education system. Madrassas, unlike state or private schools, are not subject to Ofsted inspections.
Widespread allegations: More than 400 children have
claimed to have been attacked in schools like the one at Markazi Jamia mosque in
Keighley, seen on Dispatches
It is a loophole that has done little to dispel the impression that some madrassas, at least, are a law unto themselves as the latest raft of allegations above would seem to suggest.
One of the biggest in Lancashire is based at the Raza Jamia Masjid mosque, just off the main road that cuts through Accrington, and consists of several terraced houses converted into one large building.
There are separate entrances for the dozens of male and female pupils. The madrassa has a written policy urging staff to put the welfare of children above all else and there is a strict ‘no hitting’ rule.
Teachers
who take pupils for less then 12.5 hours a week are deemed to have the status of
being 'in loco parentis' which allows them to smack those in their charge under
the defence of 'reasonable punishment'
Earlier this year, however, that rule was
flagrantly broken. ‘The mosque teacher came and hit us all with a stick,’ an 11-year-old pupil told File On 4. ‘He hit me on the back. I felt angry because he hit me. He is not allowed to touch anyone in the mosque.’
The ‘stick’, it transpired, wielded by Ibrahim Yusuf, 52, himself a father of eight, who had taught at the madrassa for nearly 12 years, was a 2ft long section of a plastic overflow pipe.
‘How would you feel to be in that situation — to be hit and abused?,’ said the victim’s older sister. ‘As a child you don’t know what to do. We are living in the 21st century. Things like this are not supposed to be happening.’
In all, four boys, including a youngster with learning difficulties, were hit with the pipe during the incident for misbehaving. Details of the beatings emerged at their primary school the following day when the boys spoke about what had happened in front of teachers.
The teachers contacted children’s services, who in turn called the police. ‘It was serious,’ said Det Sgt Julie Cross, because a stick [sic] was used. It is not acceptable for teachers within a madrassa to be relying on implements to control the classroom.’
Yusuf claimed he didn’t usually have a ‘stick’ but had it that day for teaching purposes, as a ‘pointer.’ Nevertheless, he was charged with four counts of assault.
Shortly afterwards, the mother of the boy who spoke to File On 4 says she was approached by another mother at her home, who told her to drop the allegations. The parents of two of the other boys later informed the police they no longer wanted to press charges and would not be part of the case.
Shocking: The episodes at West Yorkshire mosque filmed in
February's documentary sparked last week's BBC radio investigation
Answering the door of his semi-detached home in Blackburn this week, Yusuf said: ‘The matter has been dealt with and I have nothing else to say. I am teaching there and everyone is more than happy for me to be there.’
Not everyone.
‘It is wrong that he has come back,’ says his 11-year-old victim. ‘They should have kicked him out of the mosque. I don’t go to the mosque any more.’
What seems to be beyond dispute is that abuse at Britain’s madrassas has gone largely unreported for many years. ‘I have been told about this abuse by ex-teachers who have witnessed it as well as families who have suffered it,’ said Dr Siddiqui.
‘The most common acts of violence involve holding a child’s hair and banging his or her head against a wall. Punching them in their heads and bodies is common as well as making them adopt the Hen position.’
In 2006, Dr Siddiqui, then leader of the Muslim Parliament of Great Britain — a forum set up back in the Nineties to lobby and campaign on issues affecting Muslims — accused local imams of not taking their duty to protect children seriously.
Anyone
with 'less than a fistful of beard' must be avoided 'the same way you stay away
from a serpent or a snake', some children were instructed. Non-Muslims were
referred to as the 'infidel'
His concerns were spelled out in a damning
35-page publication, Child Protection In Faith-Based
Environments.‘The Muslim community,’ he wrote, ‘is at present in a state of denial — denial of the fact that child abuse takes place in places of worship including mosques and madrassas and families. It is a taboo subject.
‘There is very little discussion taking place in the community on the subject at any level. Hence, when such a crime is committed, the victim knows no one to turn to and the abusers are answerable to no one.’
If many in the Muslim community, even parents, are prepared to turn a blind a eye, what chance of preventing children at madrassas being fed a hardline, intolerant version of Islam which may have profoundly dangerous consequences to Britain as a whole?
A recent Government report concluded that over the past decade, Al Qaeda followers have used Britain’s madrassas to radicalise young Muslims.
Indeed, a Home Office-funded project, set up in 2007, to try to spot future terrorists, has identified more than 300 children who are ‘vulnerable’ to Islamic radicalisation. The figure comprises an astonishing 55 under-12s, and another 290 aged up to 16.
It doesn’t have to be like this.
Academic and theologian Dr Taj Hargey runs an Islamic school in Oxford where children are taught in mixed-sex classes. Pupils are told to respect other faiths, ask questions about their religion and recite the Koran in English as well as Arabic. He says he set up the madrassa because of the claims Muslim families had made to him about beatings at other establishments.
‘What an outdated, archaic concept,’ he says, ‘and if we inflict violence on our children, we will sow the seeds of violence in them.’

The MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD plan for world domination
The MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD plan for world domination
Posted: October 26, 2011 | Author: barenakedislam |The so-called Arab Spring has brought the Muslim Brotherhood to the threshold of power and influence in the Middle East. Their only aim is to control the world with Islam. They know they cannot use force to convert the West, so they use deceit (taqiyya). They have managed to deceive a lot of Western politicians into believing them.
CBN A Norwegian television documentary, called “Freedom, Equality and the Muslim Brotherhood,” is unmasking the Muslim Brotherhood’s plans for world domination. Walid al-Kubaisi, an Iraqi-born Norwegian journalist, produced and hosted the documentary for Norway television. It has never been shown on American TV.Al-Kubaisi said Brotherhood leaders told him they have a plan to take over Norway and the rest of Europe as a part of bringing the whole world under Islam. “The Muslim Brotherhood has a practice. The have learned to speak with two tongues,” he told CBN News.
However, Muslim Brotherhood leaders are quite open about their intentions with those like al-Kubaisi, who traveled to the Middle East and speaks fluent Arabic. “The Muslim Brotherhood’s dream is to form a total Islamic state.”
Al-Kubaisi also interviewed Gamal al-Banna, the brother of Hassan al-Banna, the man who founded of the Muslim Brotherhood in 1928. Al-Banna had surprisingly harsh words for the modern Muslims Brotherhood movement, saying it does not believe in freedom “in any way.” “They do not believe in freedom at all,” he said. “There is no Islamic authority that respects freedom or democracy.” Al-Banna also condemned the state of modern Islamic culture.
Al-Kubaisi saId Norway and the West have been duped by the Muslim Brotherhood. “The West and America both supported Islamists.
But one of the Muslim Brotherhood’s key spiritual leaders, Sheik Yusef al-Qaradawi, said on Arabic TV that “defeating Rome, Italy and Europe means that Islam will come back to Europe.” “I believe Islam will conquer Europe without using violence.”
Barack Hussein Obama is empowering both the decline of America and the rapid advance of radical Islam across the Arab world. Will the mainstream media even notice?
Posted: October 26, 2011 | Author: barenakedislam |The Arab Spring has turned into an Islamist winter. Contrary to the administration’s claims, the popular uprisings have not led to a rebirth of freedom – the emergence of liberal democracies. Rather, Muslim fundamentalists have used street protests against corrupt, autocratic regimes as a Trojan horse to expand Islamic militancy.
Washington Times In Tunisia, an Islamist party with ideological ties to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is poised to win national elections. Its goal is to repeal the nation’s secular traditions (inherited from the French empire) and erect a Muslim theocracy. Its platform calls for banning alcohol, forcing women to wear the veil and implementing Shariah law. Non-Muslims and women are to be treated as second-class citizens.Next month, it will be Egypt’s turn to hold elections. The Muslim Brotherhood is expected to gain the largest number of parliamentary seats. Its aim is to restore the global caliphate and return Cairo to the rule of fundamentalist clerics. Its foreign policy is based upon hatred of Israel and America.
The Sinai already has become a sanctuary for terrorists and a staging ground for attacks on Israeli cities. Since the overthrow of strongman Hosni Mubarak, rampaging Muslim mobs have murdered numerous Coptic Egyptians and destroyed Christian churches. More than 100,000 Christian Copts have been expelled – an act of deliberate religious cleansing. About 8 million Copts are left in Egypt. The Brotherhood views them as a “threat” to the “Egyptian nation.” The country could be on the verge of religious and civil war, yet Mr. Obama is shamefully silent about the anti-Christian pogrom taking place.
In Libya, Mr. Obama supported the rebel movement. Col. Moammar Gadhafi lived by the gun; he died by the gun. Gadhafi was a brutal dictator whose bizarre regime turned Libya into a giant prison. No one should shed a tear for that butcher – especially considering his involvement in the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which claimed the lives of 270 people, including many Americans.
The question, however, is what comes after Gadhafi? Because of Mr. Obama’s policies, NATO has armed, trained and financed the creation of an Islamist Libya. Jihadists fill the ranks of the rebels. Many of them were in Iraq and Afghanistan, killing and maiming U.S. soldiers. There are even al Qaeda members among them. Islamic fighters have raided Gadhafi’s military stockpiles and stolen more than 20,000 surface-to-air missiles. Some have found their way into the hands of Hamas; others may be used to shoot down American commercial airliners.
Tripoli’s interim government, the one the administration keeps telling us is “moderate” and “pro-democracy,” has just announced that Libya will be governed strictly by Shariah law. It has legalized Muslim polygamy. It has banned charging interest on loans, forcing banks to be Shariah-compliant. The rebels openly acknowledge that their ideological soul mates are members of the Muslim Brotherhood, not America’s Founding Fathers. Contrary to Mr. Obama’s spin, George Washington has not crossed the Mediterranean. Instead, the Prophet Muhammad has – paid for by U.S. taxpayers and backed by U.S. bombs. The Muslim crescent is on the march.
Still, Mr. Obama’s greatest failure is Iraq. He has ordered all U.S. troops to be withdrawn from that country by the end of the year – except for about 150 soldiers to protect our huge embassy in Baghdad. He is hailing the decision as a fulfillment of his 2008 campaign pledge. It is a betrayal of the more than 4,400 Americans who died in the war as well as the tens of thousands maimed and crippled. A power vacuum will result with Iraq falling under Iran’s sphere of influence. Tehran seeks a Shiite vassal state. It is meddling in internal Iraqi affairs. Iraq is splintering along religious and ethnic lines. Iraqi Christians have been decimated by Islamist insurgents. Iran’s mullahs are on the verge of exporting their radical Shiite revolution – even at the risk of inflaming Iraq’s Sunnis and Kurds. Americans did not bleed to benefit Iran’s fascist theocracy. They fought – and died – to establish a pro-Western Iraq.
Top U.S. generals have warned that the rapid pullout will reverse all of the strategic gains of the 2007 troop surge. This is why they recommended that at least 10,000 troops remain be hind – to train and assist Iraqi national forces and to counter Iranian influence. The Obama administration argues that Baghdad refused to grant immunity to U.S. soldiers from Iraqi prosecution while serving there. Hence, Washington could never agree to such conditions. Yet, had the White House pushed harder and cultivated better relations with our Kurdish allies in northern Iraq, Baghdad would have capitulated. America then could establish several military bases, especially in Iraqi Kurdistan, from which to project regional power.
Instead, Iran’s mullahs have won. Once Tehran acquires the nuclear bomb, it will be able to blackmail its neighbors, dominate the region and impose a stranglehold over the world’s oil supply. The trend is clear: American power is in retreat. In its wake are the new invading barbarians.
Like emperors in the final days of Rome, our leaders can pretend that the barbarians pose no imminent threat. Everyone knows, however, that Mr. Obama is simply managing America’s decline. His warm embrace of the Arab Spring as a pro-democracy movement simply camouflages the sad reality of our time: The Islamists are rising, threatening freedom wherever they tread.

Muslims of the Americas: In Their Own Words
Muslims of the Americas
Muslims of the Americas (MOA) is a virulently anti-Semitic, Islamic extremist group with ties to Al-Fuqra, a terrorist organization that has carried out firebombings and murders in the United States. MOA claims to have offices in six U.S. cities and Toronto and maintains secluded residential communities in New York, Virginia and California. The group's Web site and e-mails have featured writings by notorious anti-Semites and Holocaust deniers, including Michael Hoffman and former Klansman David Duke.
MOA was founded and is led by the radical Pakistani cleric El Sheikh Sayyid Mubarik Ali Jilani (commonly known as Sheikh Jilani or Sheikh Gilani). Based in Lahore, Pakistan, Jilani established MOA in 1980, after arriving in the United States for the first time. In the 1980s, Jilani, who claims to be a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, actively recruited American Muslims to fight against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. MOA claims to have offices in six U.S. cities and Toronto, and it maintains secluded residential communities in New York, Virginia, California, and possibly other states. The group also runs a Web site and an e-mail mailing list.
The available evidence strongly suggests that MOA has served as a corporate front for another group founded by Sheik Jilani, the terrorist organization Al-Fuqra, which has committed firebombings and murders on U.S. soil. Both Sheikh Jilani and MOA officials deny that Al-Fuqra even exists, and MOA claims to be a "peaceful" group. Though relatively few members of MOA have been arrested for criminal activity, two residents of the MOA community in Virginia were recently arrested for firearms violations, and a resident of the MOA community in California was recently arrested for the murder of a Sheriff's Deputy.
Muslims of the Americas: In Their Own Words
Here are examples of anti-Semitic, anti-Christian,anti-American, and homophobic statements made by MOA, as well as comments that promote violence:
On Jews
"Jews are an example of human Satans. This is why Jews are the founders of Satan worship and Masonic lodges, and are now trying to take over the entire globe in which the global religion is to be Satanism….In the US there are now thousands of temples where Satan is worshipped. This Satanism has now become the ultimate tool in the hands of Zionists. "

"The enemies of Islam all over the world under the leadership of the Zionist
New World Order are poised to eliminate the Ummah [the worldwide Muslim
community] or so is their conspiracy….We thus find today that all Muslim
countries are ruled by kufirized [infidel] locals operating under the guise of
Islam. All of these rulers are thoroughly under the Zionist New World order in
every sphere of their mental outlook and conception. They today rule the World
of Islam on behalf of their masters who dictate all the terms….Without Islam
there is no Ummah, and no force to contest the Kufr Zionist New World Order….As
we all know the Yahood (Jews), are master conspirators. They plot and plan for a
century ahead. Since they are deprived of true belief in spite of their overt
profession of faith and religion, they labor under the misconception that their
plans will always remain on course….The setbacks which the enemies of Allah, are
experiencing and which are impeding the full achievement of their satanic goals,
all of which is part of the Divine Scheme of Allah...to save the Ummah from
annihilation."

"Every God-fearing individual, whether in America or abroad, must become
informed of the heinous, barbaric, and purely sub-human nature of Zionism and
all of its offshoots. It is the duty of every individual to become familiar with
the nature and ways of Zionism and become educated to the whims and craftiness
of these devils…"

On Christians
"If you ask any Christian 'What is meant by belief in God Almighty?' he will not be able to give you any rational explanation. On the contrary, he will confuse you, and damage you psychologically…Christians would rather submit to the theory that they have killed their god and now believe in the supremacy and power of Satan. Try to imagine the type of mentality that is build upon such a belief: Masochism, suicide, Satanism…they confuse the matter still more by introducing the fable of the Risen Christ, but have never produced a solitary witness to testify that he or she actually saw Christ ascending…One certain factor in the propagation of this nonsense is that the priests want poor, simple folk to believe in Jesus as the Son of God, whereas Jesus himself never proclaimed to be such… The vicars of Christ, after having completely confused western man in the matter of belief, use this method to manipulate the people in such a way that the priests are accepted as gods who have the power to send people to Heaven, Hell, or atone their sins… By having put their god on a crucifix as opposed to executing Satan, they not only have blasphemed against the Wisdom and Judgment of God Almighty, but reduced Him to a role of subservience to Satan. Similarly, by attributing the words of the Bible to God, they also attribute all their fallacies, inaccuracies, irrationalities, lies, and contradictions to Him!"

On Gays
"The agents of Shaytan (Satan) are many. Many efforts are put forth to mislead masses into darkness via Satanic philosophies, ideologies, and schisms brought forth to divide and keep humanity divided, resulting in immorality, bigotry, break-down of family structure, and numerous unspeakable crimes against humanity. A perfect example of this point would be homosexuality."

On America
"America is no longer the home of the free and the land of the brave. The constitution and the Bill of rights are just pieces of paper that don't mean a damn thing anymore, unless you are white and an anti Muslim hatemonger of course. The Ku Klux Klan no longer need to wear pointed hoods and remain underground, as they are sitting in the oval office and walking the halls of congress."

On Violence
"All Muslim nations are in danger because the enemy will not rest until it has subjugated (or eliminated) ISLAM from the map, while it defends the terrorism of Israel….We must put a stop to the violence and aggression against our peoples, by our people by force if necessary. We must work with each other and collectively refuse to accept the injustice and aggression of the West and [its] protege Israel. If we take these steps be assured that ALLAH…will do the rest."
-- MOA E-mail, December 14, 2001
"The Ummah cannot afford to sit back complacently as an idle observer
witnessing his own destruction. Along with a return to Allah, Muslims are
required to sacrifice and aid those who are in the forefront in the field to
guard the Ummah and Islam. Rasulullah (Sallallahu-'Alayhi-Wa-Sallam) said 'that
there will always remain a small devoted band of his followers who will remain
ever vigilant, holding aloft the Standard of Islam...exposing themselves to
dangers and sacrificing their all for the Love of Allah...Muslims who are unable
to enter into this field of effort and sacrifice are at least required to aid
this Holy Task with their Du'as [prayers] and financial resources and with
whatever other means they possess. If the Muslims fail in this duty, they will
most assuredly be apprehended by the Punishment of Allah..."

Muammar Gaddafi sealed his fate by exposing Obama as a Muslim and a Friend. Anyone who Obama told he was a Muslims and not connected with the Muslim Brotherhood are being killed. Obama knew Bin Lidan, Mubarak, he told Syria they are next. He was part of the upraising as a Senator in Kenya to make it a Muslim Country with his relative cousin Raila Odinga. Odinga and Obama are from the same Kenyan Luo tribe. Odinga supporters are the people that are burning Christians alive, trapped inside churches! Most of Odinga's fanatical followers are radical Islamists who have pushed for Islamic Sharia Law, total banning of other religions and closing of co-ed schools, night clubs and western public dress code are considered immoral. Odinga was educated in Former Soviet controlled East Germany and maintains a strong loyalty to the vision of his ‘Educators’ and has allied with Islamist in order to gain their political support.

THESE are the first pictures of Barack Obama inside the White House with his British stepmother.
Taken the day he was sworn in as President, they show him giving Kezia Obama and the rest of his extended family a tour of his new home.
Embraced by Mrs Obama, who travelled to Washington DC from her council house in Bracknell, the President proudly posed in an official reception for the family.
He is also surrounded by his half-brother Abongo, his sister-in-law, niece, nephew and other relatives, who all travelled from Kenya and were in the VIP enclosure for his inauguration in January.
Mrs Obama, 66, who was married to the President’s late father, also named Barack, when they lived in Kenya, wore a traditional African outfit made in Tanzania especially for the big day.Abongo Obama, who flew from the family’s ancestral home in Kogelo, western Kenya, just days before, said: “Barack gave us a grand tour of the White House. It was amazing to be in there with him. This is his new home. He has come a long way.”
The 51-year-old accountant, who was best man at the President’s wedding, added: “My brother had such a hectic schedule that day, but he still took time out for us.”
Despite sharing the family’s jubilation, he told of his fears President Obama could be assassinated.
“There are crazy people out there, there is always a danger someone will try to hurt him,” he said. “That’s something I worry about all the time. Security was so tight, yet there were times when he was out there shaking hands with the public and I just saw how exposed he is and it scared me.”
He also revealed how his brother had sent a personal note to the family on official White House stationery once they returned to Kenya. The note read: “To the people of K’Obama – Thank you for the prayers and support!”
A similar letter was sent to the people of Kogelo, some of whom had travelled to the US for the historic occasion. The President’s 86-year-old paternal grandmother Sarah was also in Washington DC for his swearing-in ceremony, as well as his half-sister Auma, 49, and half-brothers Ben, 38, and Abo, 40.
Mr Obama said: “I am looking forward to going back and staying with Barack at the White House, but it won’t ever be the same.
“We can’t just hang out like we used to and sit in a bar with a few drinks catching up. I will miss that and he will too but this was his dream, he knew he had to make certain sacrifices.”
After marrying Mrs Obama, Barack Obama Snr went on to marry President Obama’s mother Ann Dunham – an American he met during a scholarship to the United States. He eventually returned to his first wife, with whom he had four children, and died in 1982.
President Obama first met his Kenyan relatives during a trip to Africa in his twenties, after his father died.

What does Obama have in store for America? Socialist Islamic SHARIA!
My main concern is to protect the USA and to remove all of the Laws Obama implemented without the approval of WE the People. All new laws should be voted on not only by the Houses but also by the people. It seems the House does not listen to We the People.
It wasan’t that long ago that Muammar Gaddafi heiled Obama as a Muslim and a friend.
Now he’s dead.
Libyan tyrant Muammar Gaddafi praised Barack Obama in February and acknowledged his Muslim descent.
It’s not the first time he said that Obama was Muslim.
Gaddafi said the whole Arab world is ready to throw their financial support behind this Muslim candidate back in 2008.
YNet News reported:
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi considers the US president a blessing to the Muslim world. In a speech published in London-based al-Hayat newspaper on Saturday, Gaddafi praised Barack Obama, called him a “friend” and said there is no longer any dispute between his country and the US.Obviously, he wasn’t that close of a friend, Moammar.
Speaking in the Libyan city of Sirt at an event marking the 24th anniversary of an American attack on Libya, he said, “At the time, we were the target of the American cannon, the American navy challenged us in the gulf of Sirt and attacked us all along Libya’s shores. America tested Libya, and the Libyan people resisted the large country, but today, thank God, the difference is great.”
He said, “Now, ruling America is a black man from our continent, an African from Arab descent, from Muslim descent, and this is something we never imagined – that from Reagan we would get to Barakeh Obama.”
Gaddafi stressed that Obama’s presidency is “a major historical gain” and said, “He is someone I consider a friend. He knows he is a son of Africa. Regardless of his African belonging, he is of Arab Sudanese descent, or of Muslim descent. He is a man whose policy should be supported, and he should be assisted in implementing it in any way possible, since he is now leaning towards peace.”
