CUPERTINO, Calif. — Authorities searched Wednesday for a man they say killed two and wounded six at the Northern California limestone quarry where he worked, and may have also shot a woman in an attempted carjacking afterward.
The disgruntled employee opened fire at a safety meeting at the Permanente Quarry at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, Santa Clara County Sheriff's spokesman Jose Cardoza said.
He used a handgun and rifle, then left the meeting and began walking around the grounds of the quarry owned by Lehigh Southwest Cement Company about 15 miles west of San Jose.
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center spokeswoman Joy Alexiou said the hospital received two of the victims, who were in good and fair condition. Their names and the extent of their wounds were not immediately released.
One victim was taken to the emergency room at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, according to spokeswoman Paula Zimlicki.
The hospital cannot release any details about the patient or the patient's injuries, she said.
Authorities identified the suspect as 45-year-old Shareef Allman.
Later Wednesday morning, a woman was shot in an attempted carjacking by a man matching Allman's description, authorities said.
The woman was shot at a Cupertino intersection by the suspect, who then fled on foot, Cardoza said. The suspect used a weapon similar to the gun used in the quarry shooting, he added.

The victim was taken to the hospital. Her condition was unknown.
According to the Santa Clara County website, Permanente Quarry is a limestone and aggregate mining operation and cement plant located in the foothills above Cupertino.
