Baby Seriously Injured in Muslim Rock Ambush

A 2-year-old baby suffered a serious head injury when the car she was in was pelted in southern Jerusalem

A two-year-old baby was seriously injured Thursday when Muslim terrorists hurled rocks at the car she was in, at the entrance to the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood in southern Jerusalem.

A Magen David Adom (MDA) team gave the baby initial medical care and took her to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital. She suffered a serious head injury.

Security forces are combing the area in search of the terrorists.

Refael Herbst, an MDA paramedic who treated the girl, said: "When we arrived we saw a woman holding a baby aged about 2 years, with a bleeding wound in her head. She was apathetic and in a foggy state of consciousness. We gave her medical treatment on the spot. We were told she had been hit by a large rock as she was traveling in the car with her mother and two brothers, who sat beside her in the car's back seat."

"After initial medical care we began the evacuation, and continued giving her care inside the ICU ambulance. On the way to Hadassah Ein Kerem, in the course of the treatment, she began to recover and regained consciousness. When we took her to the trauma room in the hospital she was in moderate condition."

Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) reacted to the attack and said that it joins a long list of similar serious incidents. "I strengthen the prime minister's hands," he said, "[in the hope] for a determined, quick action to put an end to the Stone Age."

Ten residents of Jerusalem's Issawiya neighborhood, aged 15-17, were arrested earlier this week on suspicion that they threw firebombs and rocks at an IDF base on Mount Scopus, at Hebrew University buildings and at police vehicles.

At least two of the teenaged terrorists are linked to the DFLP terror organization.

Israeli Scientist Wins Nobel Prize for Chemistry

An Israeli scientist won this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering quasicrystals, a material in which atoms were packed together in a well-defined pattern that never repeats.

Recent Nobel prizes have generally split credit for scientific advances among two or three people, but this year’s chemistry prize and the accompanying 10 million Swedish kronor ($1.4 million) went to a single scientist: Dan Shechtman, 70, a professor of materials science at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. Dr. Shechtman is also a professor at Iowa State University and a researcher at the United States Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory.
The citation from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences states simply, “for the discovery of quasicrystals.”
Regular but nonrepeating patterns, defined by precise rules, have been known in mathematics since antiquity, and medieval Islamic artists made decorative, nonrepeating tile mosaics, but the phenomenon was thought impossible in the packing of atoms.
Yet Dr. Shechtman discovered the same type of structure in a mixture of aluminum and manganese. During a sabbatical in Maryland at the National Bureau of Standards, now known as the National Institute of Standards and Technology, he took a molten glob of the metals and chilled it rapidly. The expectation was that the atoms would have been a random jumble, like glass. Yet when he examined his metal with an electron microscope, Dr. Shechtman found that the atoms were not random.
His notebook recorded the exact date: April 8, 1982.
Scientists believed that crystals in materials all contained repeating patterns. For example, a square lattice has fourfold symmetry. Rotate it by 90 degrees, and it looks identical. A repeating lattice with fivefold symmetry, however, is impossible. On that morning in 1982, the electrons Dr. Shechtman bounced off his aluminum-manganese alloy formed a pattern that indicated tenfold symmetry. He could not quite believe it. He wrote in his notebook, “10 Fold???”
While a periodic lattice could not produce that pattern, a quasicrystal could.
It took years for Dr. Shechtman to convince others.
During the announcement, the Nobel committee noted that one colleague initially said, “Go away, Danny,” because he thought there was a simpler explanation for what Dr. Shechtman had observed. Many scientists — notably Linus Pauling, the Nobel-winning giant of chemistry — argued vehemently that Dr. Shechtman’s data could be explained by “twinning,” where two ordinary periodic crystals are fused together at an angle.
“That must have been intimidating,” said Nancy B. Jackson, president of the American Chemical Society. “When he first discovered these materials, nobody thought they could exist. It was one of these great scientific stories that his fellow scientists thought was impossible, but through time, people came to realize he was right.”
Even the definition of crystal had to be changed. Previously, a crystal had been defined as having “a regularly ordered, repeating three-dimensional pattern,” according to the International Union of Crystallography. The new definition, adopted in 1992, states that a crystal is simply a solid with a “discrete diffraction diagram” — that is, something that produces patterns like the ones Dr. Shechtman saw.
That leaves the door open for yet more different kinds of crystals in the future. Quasicrystals have since been found in many other materials, including a naturally occurring mineral from a Russian river. Materials scientists have been exploring quasicrystals because of their distinct properties — they are hard, brittle, slippery and, unlike most metals, poor conductors of electricity.
Quasicrystals have so far had a modest impact in the everyday world. For example, one kind of highly resilient steel, consisting of hard steel quasicrystals embedded within softer steel, is now used in razor blades and thin needles for eye surgery.
“The applications haven’t panned out,” said Patricia A. Thiel, a colleague of Dr. Shechtman at Iowa State and Ames Laboratory who also studies quasicrystals. “But they revolutionized our understanding of how atoms arrange themselves in solids. It was a scientific revolution.”
Israeli leaders expressed delight and pride at the 10th Nobel Prize won by a citizen of Israel, which has a population of less than eight million. Two years ago, Ada E. Yonath of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, shared the award for chemistry as well.
Shimon Peres, Israel’s president, spoke by telephone to Dr. Shechtman at a news conference in Haifa and said, “Professor Shechtman, you today brought an enormous gift to the State of Israel, truly.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also called and told him, “Every Israeli is happy today, and every Jew in the world is proud.”
Dr. Shechtman was born and educated in Israel. At the news conference, he said, “The celebration is not only for the Technion and the State of Israel but also for science worldwide. There are today thousands of scientists around the world working in this field that I developed, and I am certain they all see this prize as their accomplishment and they really deserve it. Without these thousands, this science would not be where it is today.”
Dr. Shechtman added, “The main lesson that I have learned over time is that a good scientist is a humble and listening scientist and not one that is sure 100 percent in what he reads in the textbooks.”

Gaffney: Rise of Sharia Law Will Bring War to the Middle East

 War is on its way in the Middle East as Muslim countries are determined to force a showdown over the future of Israel, Ronald Reagan’s assistant defense secretary Frank Gaffney warned in an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview.

“I’m afraid there’s a war coming, a very serious, perhaps cataclysmic regional war,” he said. “It will be presumably over, at least in part, the future existence of the state of Israel. It may involve all of its neighbors, as they have in the past, attacking Israel to try, as they say, to drive the Jews into the sea.

“It may involve the use of nuclear weapons,” Gaffney predicted. “But whatever form it takes and whenever it occurs, it is unlikely to be contained to that region, and we must do everything we can to prevent freedom’s enemies from thinking they have an opportunity to engage in that kind of warfare.”

That means standing “absolutely, unmistakably” as one with Israel and doing everything to prevent Iran getting its hands on nuclear weapons.

Gaffney, who now heads up the nonprofit Center for Security Policy in Washington, D.C., was speaking on the day that the “moderate” Islamist party Ennahda claimed victory at the ballot box in Tunisia and the day after Libya’s new rulers declared that country will be run on Islamic principles and under Sharia law.

 Gaffney does not believe Ennahda is really a moderating force. “I don’t believe there is such a thing as a moderate Islamist party,” he said. “The challenge with Islamists is that they seek to impose what they call Sharia on everybody, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

“They may, as a matter of tactical expediency, choose to do so in incremental ways, often nonviolently, at least initially.

“The problem is that, because ultimately they must — according to Sharia, according to what they believe is God’s will — make everyone feel subdued in order to achieve their God-mandated direction, they will not remain moderate. They will not be satisfied with anything less than the ultimate supremacy of Sharia and they certainly will not resist the use of violence when it becomes expedient to get their way.”

Gaffney, who writes a regular column for Newsmax, foresees a rising tide of Islamist governments growing throughout Middle East and North Africa and spreading even further.

“We’re witnessing not just the violent kind of jihad that these Islamists believe God compels them to engage in, but also, where they must for tactical reasons, a more stealthy kind, or civilizational jihad as the Muslim Brotherhood calls it. We’re witnessing that playing out, not only in places in the Middle East but also in Europe, in Australia, in Canada and here in the United States as well,” he said.

The spread of Sharia, which Gaffney said often is referred to as “Communism with a god,” is “the most urgent and grievous challenge we face as a free people.

“Those who follow this program of Sharia believe that God is directing them to engage in jihad or whatever form of warfare is necessary to accomplish their goals . . . .Through stealth, they have successfully penetrated important parts of the free world including our own government and civil society institutions.”

The Obama administration has to stop “embracing” the Muslim Brotherhood, Gaffney said.

“This is legitimating our enemies,” he said. “It is facilitating their influence operations and their penetration and it greatly increases the prospect that they will be successful at what the Muslim Brotherhood’s own documents indicate is their desire, which is to destroy western civilization from within.”

Gaffney noted that Ennahda had won what appears to be a clean election in Tunisia, but that doesn’t mean there ever will be another vote there.

“The problem is not simply democracy. People are pointing to Tunisia as a perfect example of democracy at work. Democracy is fine if all you want is one-man-one-vote one-time. That is precisely what the Muslim Brotherhood and its like-minded Islamist friends want.”

The Obama administration must apply pressure to ensure that democracy has a future there and elsewhere in the region, Gaffney said.

“The president and his administration are not even pursuing that,” he said. “What we are likely to wind up with, not just in Tunisia, not just in Libya, not just in Egypt, but probably in due course in Syria — as we have in Lebanon, as we have in Gaza and probably will have down the road in Yemen, Bahrain, maybe Saudi Arabia — is the takeover, the unmistakable takeover, perhaps through the ballot box, of people who will not seek or allow others freedom, who will impose Sharia and who will use whatever resources they amass as a result, not only to suppress their own people, but to endanger us.”

'Israel plans to strike Iran in September'

Ex-CIA official Robert Baer believes an Israeli strike against Tehran is rather imminent; predicts US will have to get involved
 Israel may mount a strike against Iran in the fall, longtime CIA officer Robert Baer, who spent 21 years in the Middle East, told a Los Angeles radio station Saturday.

Baer ventured such a move will drag the United States into another major war and endangering US military and civilian personnel throughout the Middle East and beyond.

Baer spoke on the provocative KPFK Los Angeles show Background Briefing, hosted by Ian Masters.


Baer didn't name sources for his prediction of an Israeli attack, but the few he did cite are all Israeli security figures who have publically warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was adamant to strike Iran, such as former Mossad Chief Meir Dagan.

Baer said that "There is almost near certainty that Netanyahu is planning an attack (on Iran)… and it will probably be in September before the vote on a Palestinian state. And he's also hoping to draw the United States into the conflict," he explained.

The ex-CIA official went on to guess that the Israeli air force would attack "Natanz and other nuclear facilities to degrade their capabilities. The Iranians will strike back where they can: Basra, Baghdad," effectively forcing the US to "jump into the fight" with attacks on Iranian targets.


"Our special forces are already looking at Iranian targets in Iraq and across the border (in Iran) which we would strike. What we're facing here is an escalation, rather than a planned out-and-out war...it's a nightmare scenario. We don't have enough troops in the Middle East to fight a war like that. I think we are looking into the abyss," he said.

Speaking at a conference at the Tel Aviv University, Dagan said: "A military attack will give the Iranians the best excuse to pursue the nuclear race. Khamenei will say 'I was attacked by a country with nuclear capabilities; my nuclear program was peaceful, but I must protect my country. " The former secret service chief warned that if a regional war breaks after Israel attacks Iran, Hezbollah will join forces with the Islamic Republic, and Syria might also be dragged into the confrontation. Dagan also addressed reports of trade ties between the Ofer Brothers and the Islamic Republic. "There is no law prohibiting a ship from docking in Iran," he said. "I am not the defender of the Ofer family, nor am I their representative – I simply care about the State of Israel; I care for the thousands of employees working for the Ofer family, whose livelihood might be jeopardized. " Dagan also referred to the legal aspect of the affair, saying "they didn’t trade with Iran – they are a shipping company; besides, there is no boycott on Iran," he stated. Dagan, currently the chairman of Gulliver Energy Ltd, a gas and oil exploration company, also commented on the peace process, saying that Israel should have accepted the "Saudi Peace Initiative", which he claimed provided "a good basis to adopt" because it does not deal with core issues such as the refugees. Speaking of the recent reconciliation pact between Hamas and Fatah, the former Mossad chief said "there is a very problematic situation between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, which presents Israel with complex dilemmas.  'Israel facing complex dilemmas.' During the panel, Dagan commented on kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, saying that "returning a soldier at all costs is something the state cannot withstand." Dagan stressed that while he is not opposed to a prisoner exchange deal, he does not support the current one that will see 450 prisoners with blood on their hands set free.  "What will be the human cost of such a deal? A day will come when a father will say – who allowed you to play with the fate of my son who was killed because you released a murderer." Throughout his speech, Dagan referred indirectly to the criticism directed at him and other security officials who publicly commented on sensitive issues after retiring from their posts. "I think it is the duty of former senior officials to present their opinions although sometimes these may be unpopular," he noted.

The source, who is in a position to monitor Israeli defense activities, said the U.S. is watching “an indicator and warning matrix” in which the U.S. can “go so far as to plot the illumination tables to pick out what nights would be best” for such an attack.
The intelligence source said that there is “a green light” for the Israelis “to do a strike.”
The source said that the concern among some U.S. analysts is that an attack could be “imminent.”
For some time, Israel has sought to get the U.S. to launch an attack on Iran’s nuclear-enrichment facilities sprinkled throughout the country. Until now, however, the U.S. has sought to impose more stringent sanctions against the Islamic republic, even though Tehran insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and it has a “right” under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty to engage in enrichment for its reactors.
The indicators and warning, or I&W, are being watched closely following an arrest last month and an indictment this week in a New York federal courthouse in Manhattan of an Iranian-American, Mansour Arbabsiar, allegedly for conspiring to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the U.S., Adel al-Jubier. Arbabsiar was arrested in a sting operation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The U.S. alleges that Arbabsiar, a used-car salesman living in Texas, had conspired with individuals in Iran said to be linked to Iran’s Quds Force. The Quds Force is an arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps that undertakes foreign operations.
According to the indictment, Arbabsiar allegedly had contacted a member of a Mexican drug cartel who was an informant for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to carry out the assassination at a Washington restaurant frequented by al-Jubier.
Arbabsiar allegedly was to funnel some $1.5 million from the Quds Force to the Mexican drug cartel contact. Prior to the arrest, two payments adding up to $100,000 allegedly were sent from Iran as a down payment, with the rest to be paid once al-Jubier was killed.
A total of $5 million potentially was to be paid out for other operations, which allegedly were to include attacks on the Israeli and Saudi embassies in Argentina following al-Jubier’s assassination.
The U.S. intelligence source said while some analysts believe an Israeli attack may be imminent, close I&W monitoring of Israeli defense posture indicated that only their civil defense had been “spun up” at the moment.
“You can’t launch a strike where the possibility of massive retaliation is very high and not have anything activated,” he said.
“One curious thing is that we’re taking a lot of imagery of the (Israeli) defense sites – more than usual,” he added. “You might see one report every few weeks on something (but) there were five just today.”
Even President Obama has stated that “nothing is off the table” when it comes to responding to Iran.

Palestinian Authority terrorists continued their attacks on innocent Jewish motorists over Yom Kippur, this time attacking a woman in labor and her husband as they rushed to the hospital. The husband, Ariel Goldman of Pnei Kedem, told Arutz Sheva that the two were lucky to escape with their lives.

Their ordeal began near Har Homa at 2:30 a.m., as they drove to Hadassah Ein Karem hospital in Jerusalem. Suddenly, they encountered a point in the road that had been blocked by large stones.

As Goldman slowed the car, looking for a way around the trap, several Palestinian Authority terrorists jumped out and began to hurl rocks at the car.

The attack turned into a game of cat and mouse, as Goldman looked for ways around the rocks and tried to keep moving, while the terrorists followed the car and continued to pelt it with heavy stones, using a tactic that recently resulted in two deaths near Hevron.

The terrorists “had murder in their eyes,” Goldman said.

He finally managed to pass the stone barrier and speed away from the group of attackers, only to encounter a second group that attempted to stone the car near the Jerusalem neighborhood of Talpiot. Goldman managed to speed away a second time.

A policewoman he later encountered appeared uninterested by his story, but promised to notify her superiors, he said.

Ariel Goldman and his wife managed to reach the hospital, where she gave birth to a baby boy. Both the baby and mother are in good condition.

How to Campaign Against a Mosque Planning Application

1. Start Your Action Group
You will need a core group within the campaign. You can’t do this all on your own!
The more you publicise the campaign, the more support you will get, and people will respond better if they can see that you are organised.
Councils also take notice of the fact that there’s an action group that people have formed on this issue. All you need to do is create a header in Word, e.g. “Action for XYZ Location”. Then assign jobs to people – doorstepping, press, organising letter-writing.
A petition can get the attention of the media, but Local Authorities often ignore them. But a very large number of signatures will get attention.
2. Hold public meetings, and invite the press
These are necessary for raising motivation and letting people know they’re not alone, and generating face-to-face loyalty.
When fixing meetings, don’t expect any help from Local Authorities. They fear the support you can generate, but won’t help. And be careful of the press, who know they can generate publicity by painting you in a bad light. Prepare statements in advance: compassion for Muslims as the first victims of Islam, but opposition to Islam and Islamic doctrine which is supremacist in nature.
3. Get writing letters to the Local Authority (letters have more weight than petitions)
This is the hard part, getting people to write letters to the Council. And then getting them to write to the Council again if the planning application is re-submitted.
You can’t write the letters for people, but you can give them grounds which they might like to include in their letters.
You have to give them contact details for the officer to write to at the Council. It takes a lot of effort to get people to write, but it’s worth it because Councils take notice of letters.
4. Legal and policy argument
It is useful to have a legal analysis of planning policy for the site, to give technical support as to why the site would be more suited to something else. This will often include traffic and congestion.
However, I think the main argument should be on principle – that there are enough mosques in the area and the country, and that Islamic doctrine is discriminatory and hate filled and, therefore, contrary to law. And that the Local Authority or Planning Inspectorate doesn’t have the power to grant planning permission for an unlawful use such as this.
It’s important to keep the campaigning side on the front foot, and the same is true of the legal side. You have nothing to apologise for, and nothing to be defensive about.
You have every right and duty to defend that tradition of law and freedom at home.

Laura Booth, sister-in-law of Quartet envoy Tony Blair, has called on “Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt liberate Al-Quds [Jerusalem].”
The former British prime minister’s family member has previously sailed illegally to Gaza on a flotilla boat. She joined an anti-Israel rally in London Trafalgar’s Square, where another protest today (Sunday) may be the last as the mayor London vows to crack down on the incitement as the date for the next Olympics approaches.
"The Mayor believes that intolerance of our fellow citizens and hate crimes against specific communities are totally unacceptable, particularly in a city like London and especially in 2012 when the eyes of the world will be on the capital,” said a spokesman for Mayor Boris Johnson, the London Jewish Chronicle reported.
The spokesman added, “The Greater London Authority will not be authorizing political rallies in Trafalgar Square during the Olympic and Paraolympic Games."
The Trafalgar Square rallies against Israel have featured Hizbullah flags.
During last week’s demonstration, Booth went on another rant against Israel. “We say here today to you, Israel, we see your crimes and we loathe your crimes. And to us your nation does not exist, because it is a criminal injustice against humanity. We want to see Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt go to the borders and stop this now. Liberate Al Quds! March to Al Quds!”
Another speaker claimed, somewhat myopically as far as historical accuracy goes, that “the only time that land has seen peace between Muslim, Christian and Jew living side by side was when sincere Islamic rulers ruled with justice.”
During Ottoman Islamic rule, Jews were second-class citizens, called "Dhimmis". The myth of their "peaceful lives" has been debunked by historians, although they were not subject to pogroms as frequently as European Jews..
In fact, Jordan, during its occupation of the Old City and other parts of Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria between 1949 and 1967, denied Christians and Jews all access to holy sites except for visiting dignitaries.
Israel opened up the sites to all religions after it restored the areas under its sovereignty in the Six-Day War in 1967.

NEW YORK - The son of a Hamas leader who helped Israel's security forces kill and arrest members of the Islamic terrorist group says he's not afraid to die.

Mosab Hassan Yousef tells The Associated Press he's willing to speak out about Hamas' brutalities and the evils of Islam even if it gets him killed.

Yousef's memoir-- Son of Hamas -- was published this week. In it, he describes his more than ten-year relationship with Israeli security service Shin Bet.

Yousef says the Israeli security service has an important job. "They are facing a dirty, difficult war," he remarks. "I don't agree with everything that they do and I'm against it. I was very honest when I was inside the organization and they know my position, and today they are not surprised with me [or] what I'm saying in public."

During the AP interview, Yousef -- a convert to Christianity -- hurled his most inflammatory comments at Islam. Acknowledging that the comment would likely offend many people -- but that his goal is not to offend -- he said: "The biggest terrorist is Allah of the Quran, the god of the Quran, the god of Islam."

Since leaving Islam, Yousef has come to believe that the more closely Muslims follow Allah and Muhammad, the more they become "inhuman" terrorists. The fight against terrorism, he says, is actually a war between two gods. "The god of the Quran from one side, and the God of the Bible from the other side," he explains. "People are doing the will of their gods. It's the evil in the Islamic system that forces them to become inhuman."

Yousef's father, senior Hamas leader Sheik Hassan Yousef, publicly disowned his son on Monday. But the younger Yousef says he now worships a God who will never disown him. "A god who teaches you how to hate and he says about himself that 'I am the deceit [sic]' is different than a God who tells you 'I love you -- no matter what you do, you're my son."

And becoming a Christian, he adds, wasn't a matter of leaving Islam for another religions. "I am not a religious person today. I am a Jesus Christ follower," he shares. "It's a matter of a relationship."

A former CIA operative says Israel is likely to strike Iran before the Palestinian Authority attempts to win membership at the United Nations this September.

Robert Baer spent 21 years in the Middle East, including Syria – now in the grip of a budding civil war – and Lebanon, under the thumb of the Hizbullah terrorist organization. He told listeners in Los Angeles while being interviewed on KPFK Radio last Tuesday that recent public comments by former Mossad director Meir Dagan were very revealing.

Among other remarks, Dagan had warned that an Israeli attack on Iran could lead to a regional war.

Baer said that Dagan's comments, criticized by many lawmakers in Israel, “tell us with near certainty that [Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu is planning an attack, and inasmuch as I can guess when it's going to be, it's probably going to be in September, before a [U.N. General Assembly] vote on the Palestinian state.”

The retired CIA operative said he did not agree with Dagan's assessment, however, and opined that a regional war was unlikely.

Nevertheless, he noted that there is a “warning order” inside the Pentagon to prepare for conflict with Iran. “We've started to look at Iran's targets in Iraq and across the border,” he said.

He predicted that Israel would most likely attack the Natanz nuclear facility and “a couple of others to degrade their capabilities.”

Canada opposes Palestinian bid for United Nations recognition of statehood

OTTAWA - Canada is rejecting a Palestinian effort to win recognition at the United Nations as an independent state.
The move is not surprising given that the Harper government has forcefully highlighted its loyalty to Israel and the United States. Both oppose the Palestinian initiative.
The Palestinian Authority, which controls most of the West Bank, launched a campaign last month that will see it pursue a vote on statehood at the United Nations General Assembly in September — an effort borne out of its frustration over a peace process that is stalled.
The top Palestinian diplomat in Canada says her official delegation will still push hard for the support of Ottawa.
"On the conflict, we would like to see the Canadian government taking a neutral stand, supporting the creation of the state of Palestine, supporting the recognition of Palestine as a full member state in the UN in September," Linda Sobeh Ali, head of the Palestinian delegation, told The Canadian Press.
Sobeh Ali also said her delegation is pushing Canada to recognize Israel's pre-1967 borders — something Prime Minister Stephen Harper forcefully opposed, and managed to block from being part of the final communique of G8 leaders at their recent May summit in France.
"Our government's long-standing position has not changed. The only solution to this conflict is one negotiated between and agreed to by the two parties," said Chris Day, the spokesman for Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird.
"One of the states must be a Jewish state and recognized as such, while the Palestinian state is to be a non-militarized one."
The Palestinians are trying to win the requisite two-thirds support in the assembly — 128 votes among the 192 member countries — before the matter is considered by the Security Council. They have reportedly won the support of more than 100 countries.
Harper's stand at the G8 pitted him against U.S. President Barack Obama, who only a week earlier said in a major speech that the pre-1967 border should be a starting point for the resumption of stalled peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians.
But Washington last week reiterated its opposition to the Palestinian push for UN recognition of its statehood.
A State Department spokeswoman said the Palestinian move would not be helpful to getting the parties back to the bargaining table.
Canada echoes that view.
"We will monitor developments at the UN and respond appropriately," said Day. "As G8 leaders declared at Deauville, unilateral action is ultimately unhelpful."
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is to host a meeting Monday of the UN Secretary General, the European Union and Russian foreign ministers — the so-called "quartet" of Middle East peacemakers.
The Harper government has been widely criticized for siding slavishly with Israel and turning a blind eye to the suffering of Palestinian people.
Rami Khouri, a leading Mideast analyst based in Lebanon, said in a recent interview that Canada has been traditionally viewed in the region as a country that has had a "sense of decency and fairness in its foreign policy."
But that can be compromised, he added, by siding too much with Israel.
"I think the critical point for any Western government — Canadian, American, British — is to differentiate between supporting the security of Israel and opposing the colonization polices of Israel. Israel within its 1967 borders is a phenomenon the world accepts, even the Arabs," Khouri said.
"Any real friend of Israel should tell Israel, `we support you, your security but we don't support what you're doing'."
Leaked Israeli diplomatic cables, obtained by the newspaper Haaretz, give details about its foreign ministry's diplomatic offensive to counter the Palestinian UN campaign.
Israel's marching orders to its embassies are to lobby politicians, and use Jewish groups and the local media to make its case.
"The goal is to get the country in which you serve to vote against recognizing a Palestinian state," said the memo given to Haaretz. "Your plan must include approaching the most senior politicians, mobilizing the relevant force multipliers (such as local Jewish communities, non-governmental organizations) using the media, influencing local public opinion, and public diplomacy aimed at all relevant communities."

Coming UN report on first Gaza flotilla contains harsh criticism against Ankara, but Jerusalem may choose not to capitalize on it

The coming Palmer report, investigating the tragic events of the 2010 Gaza flotilla, is expected to harshly criticize Turkey's handling of the sail and its ties to the IHH, but according to Ynet's source, Jerusalem does not intend to propel the report's conclusions into an international media campaign that would "vindicate" Israel.
The report stands to include indirect criticism against Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government's involvement in the sail, but it is believed Israel will hold back so as not to impede the efforts to stabilize relations with Turkey.

Jerusalem and Ankara are still struggling with finalizing the report, but since Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Minister for Home Front Defense Matan Vilnai are pushing to normalize relations with Turkey, Israel will be in no hurry to capitalize on the report.

Turkey's objections to the second flotilla is also one of the reasons Israel prefers not to launch and international media campaign against Ankara.

While the Palmer report contains harsh criticism against both states, it insists Israel's maritime blockade on Gaza is legal.

Israel Discovers Huge Natural Gas Field

Noble Energy (see my earlier post: http://www.oilinisrael.net/oil-in-israel-articles/more-detail-about...) has discovered “three massive gas fields” just off the coast of Haifa. This field is much richer, the natural gas reservoirs much larger than Noble energy expected. This find alone could be enough natural gas to power Israel’s electrical plants and supply it’s commercial and domestic natrual gas needs for the foreseeable future – and still with enough for export to other countries. Yitzhak Tshuva, owner of the Delek Group Ltd, a partner in the Tamar #1 well, called the discovery “one of the biggest in the world,” promising that the find would present a historic land mark in the economic independence of Israel.

Three massive gas reservoirs have been discovered 80 kilometers off the Haifa coast, at the Tamar prospect, Noble Energy Inc. announced on Sunday.
The Tamar -1 well, located in approximately 5,500 feet of water, was drilled to a total depth of 16,076 feet. The thickness and quality of the reservoirs found were greater than anticipated at the location.
Charles D. Davidson, Noble Energy’s chairman, president and CEO, said in an announcement that his company was “extremely excited by the results. This is one of the most significant prospects that we have ever tested and appears to be the largest discovery in the company’s history.”
Speaking on Army Radio Sunday morning, an exhilarated Yitzhak Tshuva, owner of the Delek Group Ltd, one of the owners of the well, called the discovery “one of the biggest in the world,” promising that the find would present a historic land mark in the economic independence of Israel.
“I have no doubt that this is a holiday for the State of Israel. We will no longer be dependent [on foreign sources] for our gas, and will even export. We are dealing with inconceivably huge quantities; Israel now has a solution for the future generations,” Tshuva added.
An ecstatic Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said before the weekly cabinet meeting that the discovery was a “historic” one and could “change the face of Israeli industry.”
Production testing at Tamar will be performed after the well is completed. Noble Energy and its partners may keep the rig to drill up to two additional wells in the basin. Pending positive test results, one well could be an appraisal at Tamar.
Noble Energy operates the well with a 36 percent working interest. Other interest owners in the well are Israeli companies Isramco Negev 2, Delek Drilling, Avner Oil Exploration and Dor Gas Exploration.
Following the announcement of the discover, shares of Delek Drilling jumped up 80%, while shares of Isramco Negev 2 skyrocketed by an unprecedented 120 percent.

When I first wrote about Delta's No-Jews policy, a longtime Delta employee wrote in to tell me that I had the story all wrong. But then he checked with Delta itself, and soon wrote me again with a generous and apologetic note acknowledging that I had been right all along. Many people have written in to tell me that the practice of conforming to the entry requirements of various countries, however vile those requirements may be, is not limited just to Delta, but is industry-wide. To that I say, so what? That doesn't exonerate Delta, or any other country that does business with the Saudis. No American industry of any kind should be kowtowing to Jew-hating Islamic supremacists.

Saudi law bans Jews from entering Saudi Arabia, and Delta's partnership with Saudi Arabian Airlines requires it to accept that law. That means if you're Jewish or hold a passport from Israel and try to get on a flight to Jeddah out of New York or Washington, Delta employees will stop you.

Saudi Arabia is not the only country in the Middle East that forbids people with Israeli passports, as well as people who have simply visited Israel, from entering. Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and others don't let Jews in, either. So Delta is respecting the entry regulations of Saudi Arabia, not adopting consciously discriminatory policies against Jews.
Why was the world up in arms over apartheid in South Africa but never says anything about this? Why isn't there a global boycott of Saudi Arabia over its religious and gender apartheid? The world could afford to be self-righteous about South Africa, but needs Saudi oil -- and Obama is doing nothing to drill here or open up our own oil reserves.
He should. These Saudi rules are not worthy of respect, and no U.S. company should accommodate them. It is illegal in the United States to discriminate on the basis of religion, and that's the only law that Delta should respect.

Imagine the protests in the streets if Delta Airlines were to tell Muslims that they could not fly somewhere because the local customs would not permit them to enter that country? And just how quickly would Rev. Al Sharpton be able to gather thousands to march against Delta Airlines if they would not allow black people onto their planes because the country where they were flying would not permit people of color to enter?
Those situations are impossible to conceive because they could never happen, right?
But Delta Airlines is facing a similar moral dilemma as they get are about to complete an alliance with Saudi Arabia. The Delta-Saudi deal means adding Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAA) to Delta’s SkyTeam Alliance. For the first time, this would allow Delta passengers to fly direct into Saudi Arabia, as long as passengers are not Jewish, do not have a passport from Israel or a passport that is stamped from Israel.

This issue was addressed back in April when attorney Jeffrey Lovitky sent the following letter to Delta;

Two weeks later, Mr. Lovitky received a response from Delta, and not from CEO Richard Anderson. Lovitky‘s letter was referred to ’Customer Care.’

The answer was quite clear. Delta did not see Saudi Arabia’s discrimination against Jews to be their problem. And yet, Mr. Lovitky presisted with his questions until he received this letter;

As far as Delta was concerned this was a dead issue. Dead until it was brought to the attention of former Congressman, Fred Grandy. Mr. Grandy was visiting some old friends on Capitol Hill earlier this week when these letters were handed to him. Fred and his wife are regular guests on the Jeff Katz morning show on Talk 1200 in Boston, and this past Wednesday they discussed the potential problems that might stem from Delta’s business alliance with Saudi Arabian Airlines

Delta Sharia Airlines

While Delta Airlines obfuscates and dances around the truth (they have really perfected the art of taqiyya), their website tells the story. Go to the Delta Airlines website and look at the information listed there. Delta doesn’t just work with Saudi Airlines; they post their info on the Delta website.
Not only are Jews not welcome, but women are told to cover their arms and to wear heavy clothing, among other sharia compliant rules. Further, Muslim women are restricted from travel without a husband or immediate member of the family.

On the right, under MORE INFO, choose Visa & Passport Information.
About 2/3 of the way down the screen, you will see where you can select your country of citizenship and destination country. You then click GO.

Just for the fun of it, I selected Israel for my country of citizenship and Saudi Arabia for my destination. The screen which appeared had the Delta logo and name at the top of the screen, and it said “The government of Saudi Arabia refuses admission and transit to nationals of Israel.”

Since there’s obviously no way that Delta can disassociate itself from this bigotry, it should do the right thing and disassociate itself from Saudi Airlines.

The world could afford to be self-righteous about South Africa, but needs Saudi oil -- and Obama is doing nothing to drill here or open up our own oil reserves.
He should. These Saudi rules are not worthy of respect, and no U.S. company should accommodate them. It is illegal in the United States to discriminate on the basis of religion, and that's the only law that Delta should respect.
And so Colby M. May, director and senior counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, said that his group was going to take action: "As we learn more about the issue and facts, we are determined to ensure that American citizens do not face discrimination by airlines like Delta that are passenger code-sharing with Saudi Arabian Airlines. We will be communicating our position with members of Congress, the State Department and Delta Air Lines to ensure that the rights of American citizens are protected."
If Delta airlines can adopt the "no Jews" policy of a Muslim country like Saudi Arabia, would it not be fitting, and in the spirit of reciprocity and mutual respect, to adopt a "no Muslims" policy on certain airlines? Lord knows, travel would be so much easier and enjoyable again, and cheaper (with security costs dramatically cut). And we certainly would have no need for the TSA.
Once we accept these racist Sharia-compliant regulations, it is a slippery slope. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is doing just that, forcing American companies to give special break times to Muslim workers for prayers, and inconveniencing the non-Muslim workers who have to work longer hours to make up for the Muslims' special breaks.
A federal judge awarded 1.35 million dollars to Somali Muslims. The gripe? Not receiving adequate prayer time. Forget the fact that these some of same Muslim workers have been violent against their co-workers and the city itself. Forget their Ramadan violence. Forget the fact that some of these Muslims have vanished off the street, recruited to go to jihad and join the holy war in Somalia, with Americans living in fear of their return. Forget all that. What happened to no special classes for special people? This is America -- there should be no special rights for special classes.
The EEOC is the willing dhimmi for creeping Sharia in the workplace, at the behest of the Hamas-tied Muslim Brotherhood group the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Would they do this for complaints from Christians, Jews, and other non-believers in Islam? Christians and Jews go to churches and synagogues to pray, not to their workplaces. Yet now Hamas-tied CAIR, with the aid of tough Somali advocates, is turning workplaces into de facto mosques.
Mind you, it is not necessary for a Muslim to pray at a certain time. These actions are merely devices in which to impose Islam on non-believers. Prayer is not required on a strict schedule if a Muslim is unable to pray at the specified time; Muslim prayers are commonly "made up" after work or school. This is true even in Muslim countries, including Iran.
Muslim footbaths in airports and universities, Muslim cab drivers who refuse to take passengers with dogs or alcohol, prayer times in public schools, prayer times in the workplace, colleges forced to have separate swimming times for Islamic men and women so not to offend Muslims...this is how you lose your country. These "initiatives "are to impose their will upon us, not to enable them to honor ironclad religious responsibilities.
Delta should have refused to partner with the Saudis rather than accommodate their Jew-hatred. At a certain point we must draw the line and stand up for our values. Otherwise we will find that there is always more Sharia to accommodate -- with each new demand more hateful and anti-Semitic than the last.
